RHHS Marching Band Update #4

I am so excited for all that we are going to accomplish together, and it’s going to be TONS OF FUN too! I want to thank all of you for taking the COMMITMENT as seriously as I do. Every one of you has committed to keeping Band in your schedule and you have committed to attending the rehearsals and performances listed on the calendar (or working out conflicts with me) and I truly appreciate that. Just as a reminder, here are the dates and times for Band Camp, football season, and Prism Concert:

8/15 MB student leader meeting - 3:30 in the Band Room

Camp 4:00-9:00 (stationary members from 4:00 - 5:45 only)

8/16 Camp 4:00-9:00 (stationary members from 4:00 - 5:45 only)

8/17 Camp 4:00-9:00 (stationary members from 4:00 - 5:45 only)

8/18 Camp 4:00-9:00 (stationary members from 4:00 - 5:45 only)

8/19 Camp 4:00-9:00 (stationary members from 4:00 - 5:45 only)

TBD Dr. Martirano kickoff performance TBD (traditionally in the morning)

8/22 Camp 4:00-9:00 (stationary members from 4:00 - 5:45 only)

10/14 Rehearsal/Dinner/Football Game begins right after school

10/19 Howard County Marching Band Showcase at Hammond H. S. evening

10/26 Prism Concert Dress Rehearsal (SB, CB, & PE only) 2:30-3:45

11/2 Prism Concert Run-Through (everyone) 2:45-5:30

11/5 Prism Concert 2:00-4:00

Here are the other things that should have been accomplished by now:

*Music is printed and FULLY LEARNED at the final performance tempos. You have begun work on memorization.

*ALL athletes have sent me their practice schedules for the two weeks that we are in camp. (This is very important because we will be responsible for working out any conflicts, and in all cases - the earlier, the better!)

*You have updated Charms with all contact information, private teacher, and t-shirt size.

*All school-owned instruments (brasses AND woodwinds) needed for Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble have been checked out.

*All rehearsal and performance dates are on your family calendar.

The need to get your music learned and memorized is REAL, so please make sure you are on schedule with that. (Also be sure you know what has to be memorized and what doesn’t - I don’t want you worrying about memorizing material that we will be able to read when we perform it.) At this point you should be working on memorizing our pre-game music (The Star-Spangled Banner and Go Hawks Go), and next will be the halftime music!

A number of you received notes regarding incomplete Charms information. There are still quite a few “empty fields” so please, if you received an email, update today.

To all RETURNING Marching Band members - please try on your blue “RHHS Bands” t-shirt. If it no longer fits (or if you have lost it), please answer on Google Form #2 (see below) that you will need a new one, and I will order the size that you indicated on Charms. Note that any replacement shirts will need to paid for by the students (last year’s cost was $12, and we are working on determining if there will be a change to that). All NEW Marching Band members will receive a shirt at no cost, compliments of our wonderful Band Boosters. All Marching Band members need to have a t-shirt.

Your warm-up (“RHHS Tuning Sequence”) is now posted on the Google Drive - both .pdf and .mp3 recording. Please print, learn, and memorize! You can find your part assignment on the updated Marching Band Spreadsheet and, while you’re there, please check one more time to be sure that all of your information is correct, including marching/stationary status. If you see anything that doesn’t look right, please let me know.
