Student Leaders Needed - Apply Now!

Dear RHHS Band Students,

I am writing to invite you to apply for a student leadership position for the upcoming school year. There are three different opportunities for students to step up and make a contribution:

The MUSIC LIBRARIANS assist with music distribution and clean-up, and also with checking newly-purchased pieces of music into our library. Anyone may apply to be a librarian.

The SOCIAL COMMITTEE maintains the RHHS Bands Instagram account, and organizes and promotes non-musical activities, which could include things like a movie party, a bake-off, spirit bags, and end-of-year traditions. With so many Band students stressing the importance of the family atmosphere within our program, I want to be sure that we have some active and enthusiastic students keeping the community spirit alive. Anyone may apply to be on the social committee.

SECTION LEADERS assist with rehearsal etiquette and efficiency. Opportunities include:

*rehearsal setup/cleanup

*taking attendance

*assisting with etiquette issues including getting seated on time, marking music, and keeping phones away during rehearsals and performances

*assisting others with staying organized and fulfilling responsibilities

*ensuring that parts are adequately covered and distributed

*keeping the Director informed of questions/concerns from within the section

*generating enthusiasm and participation for fundraisers and other Band activities

*ensuring that instruments and other equipment are appropriately cared for

*setting a positive example at all times, especially as the end of the year approaches

*helping to set drill (Marching Band section leaders only)

I plan to have separate section leaders for Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Band, though you may apply for both “indoor” and “outdoor” section leader positions if you like. A section leader must have experience playing in a high school band, therefore ’21-’22 Freshmen and Sophomores are not eligible.

Applying for a leadership role is easy - just write me a short email indicating the following:

*which position(s) you are interested in (music librarian, social committee, MB section leader, WE section leader, SB section leader)

*why you are applying

*any experience or skills that would assist you in carrying out the responsibilities described above

ALL APPLICANTS: You are applying to be a leader. The best leaders often lead by example, rather than with words. When you need to use words, you must be thoughtful, compassionate, and professional. In most cases this will yield positive results. If a peer acts in a defensive manner, it is a result of human insecurity and immaturity, which we all display at times. You must avoid being caught up in the moment. If you are not getting positive results after making an honest attempt, you have a responsibility to ask for help with the situation.

Applications are due by Friday, July 2nd. Please let me know if you have any questions!

Musically,

Mr. B.
