Marching Band Update #4

This is Marching Band Update #4 - for BOTH STUDENTS AND PARENTS. If you need to see any of the previous updates, please visit our amazing Band Booster website at https://rhhsband.wixsite.com/boosters.

My specific message to parents is that we have some upcoming needs. These are not “it would be nice to have some help” situations. These are commitments that the Boosters (Band parents) have made to support the support the Band program, and your assistance is truly appreciated:

  1. We need some additional help from parents and/or students for our MASCB (Maryland All-State Community Band) lunch fundraiser at River Hill next weekend, Saturday July 31 and Sunday, August 1. Please sign up to help if you are available to assist in setting up, distributing, and cleaning up the box lunches, drinks, and snacks that we will be serving the MASCB members -> https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f054eaeaf2ea75-mascb1

  2. Lots of parent help is needed with Marching Band uniforms - fitting, inventory, shoes/gloves, etc. No experience necessary! -> https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D44ACA72BA2FE3-volunteers

OK……STUDENTS!!!! I am so excited for all that we are going to accomplish together, and it’s going to be TONS OF FUN too! The need to get your music learned and memorized is REAL, so please make sure you are on schedule with that. (Also be sure you know what has to be memorized and what doesn’t - I don’t want you worrying about memorizing material that we will be able to read when we perform it.) By now you should have memorized “The Hymn of Acxiom,” and your goal for this week should be to memorize The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Go Hawks Go.” I have not received any requests for help with the music, so my assumption is that nobody is having any difficulty at all.

I also have not received a single note from returning marchers about shirt replacements. Remember that EVERYONE must have an RHHS Bands t-shirt to wear to school on performance days, and you are going to want it to be comfortable. The deadline for letting me know that you need to purchase a new shirt is this coming TUESDAY. New marchers will receive a t-shirt, compliments of the Band Boosters.

A number of you received notes the other day regarding incomplete Charms information, specifically t-shirt size. We have received only one response, so PLEASE, if you received an email, reply today. Thank you.

Here is a list of the things that you should have completed by now:

*music in plastic page protectors and placed in a 1/2-inch (no larger) 3-ring binder, labeled clearly with your name and instrument.

*all music learned, “Hymn of Acxiom” memorized

*all rehearsal and performance dates, as well as the Band parent meeting, on the family calendar

*all sports practice schedules (for those two weeks in August) sent to me

*responses (from student leaders only) to the note I sent a couple of days ago

*drum cadence printed (percussionists only)

And here are two new tasks for you:

  1. Every member of the Marching Band needs to sign-up for a uniform fitting. Fittings will take place before Band Camp rehearsals, so you’ll have to come early on ONE DAY. Please choose your day here -> https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0D44ACA72BA2FE3-marching. (Hint: don’t wait….do it now.) Student leaders can not choose August 16th because they already have a meeting with me at 3:30.

  2. You will need a pair of compression shorts for performance days. There are no restrictions on color or anything, so please get whatever is comfortable and affordable.

If you are a woodwind player who is waiting for an instrument….thank you for your patience! I think our repair tech is finishing up with River Hill’s instruments and I promise to let you know as soon as they are available for pickup.

As always, let me know if I can help with anything!

Musically,

Mr. B.
