2022-2023 RHHS Bands Info

Hello RHHS Band Families!

With this first email of the summer I am hoping to reach all members of the RHHS Bands to share some important information. Please read on to learn about instrument sign out, Marching Band, RHHS concert videos (including the Multi-Generational Concert), and a cool event that I thought you might like to attend with me.

I know that many of you are anxious to sign out RHHS-owned instruments for use over the summer and next year. All of my woodwind instruments are in the shop for annual maintenance, and I will be sure to let you know when they return. As for the brass instruments, they are ready to go, and I am hoping to get those sign outs taken care of this week. I’ll be in the RHHS Band Room at the following times, and you are encouraged to come by and sign out what you need:

*Tuesday (tomorrow) 6/21, 11:00-noon

*Wednesday 6/22, 9:00-10:00 AM

*Friday 6/24, 3:00-4:00 PM

Please note that brass players who are marching will need the following:

*trumpet - just your trumpet

*horn - a French horn and a mellophone

*trombone - just your trombone

*euphonium - a concert euphonium and a marching baritone horn

*tuba - a concert tuba (can stay at school for now) and a convertible (marching) tuba

The Marching Band is made up of the Wind Ensemble, the Symphonic Band, and selected members of the Percussion Ensemble. Whether you are marching or not, you need to practice over the Summer in order to be ready for the beginning of the school year, so please come on over and get your instrument(s)! A parent will be needed to sign paperwork required by the county.

All Marching Band members (see above) are encouraged to start getting our rehearsal and performance dates on your calendars, as all of these events are required, curricular, (and in most cases) graded activities. You can find the fall calendar (along with some other Marching Band goodies) here -> https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/15lU94EZZrdnUjH7jH6sM0lYziiW2iiNo?usp=sharing. Music is coming SOON. I am waiting for one final piece to arrive in the mail, and then I need to scan and post everything, and determine part assignments. I will then give you access to everything we are going to play, and suggest some ways in which you can efficiently learn your music.

We made SO MUCH incredible music at The Hill this year! Here are links to the videos:

Are you going to be in town on June 28th? If so, please consider joining me at the Snowden Square movie theater for the 2022 Drum Corps International World Premiere. I often describe drum and bugle corps as the “Rolls Royce of marching band,” and this is a great opportunity to see the first performance of the summer without traveling all the way to Detroit! This is going to be FUN. Get your tickets here -> https://experience.regmovies.com/select-tickets?site=1310&id=148497&sitecode=1310

That’s all for now! Let me know if you need anything - I am always happy to help.

Musically,

Mr. Blackman
