IMPORTANT Band Updates

Dear River Hill Band Families,

I have quite a few things to share with you, and I am hoping that you can spare a few minutes to go over these items as a family.

Howard County Band Assessment - For many Band students, county assessment is the most exciting performance of the year. Please remember that we have two required after-school rehearsals to prepare for this event - March 9th and March 15th. Also, don’t forget that on the day of the performance (March 17th) our students will travel as a group to Glenelg High School by bus, but will go home with their parents after both bands play. We need every RHHS Band family in the audience cheering us on, so please come on out - you are going to LOVE what you hear! Our Symphonic Band plays at 4:55 and the Wind Ensemble plays at 7:05.

Middle School Band Assessment at RHHS - We are hosting Middle School Band Assessments on March 23rd and 24th, and I am asking that each Band family help out in some way. Some of the jobs that need to be covered include concession sales, stage crew, registration table, and guides. We will also need to provide a nice dinner for the adjudicators and music staff from central office. Please sign-up to bring something here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f054eaeaf2ea75-middle. Thank you!

Additions To Our Performance Schedule - We have been given the opportunity to perform at two exciting events. The first performance is the celebration of Columbia’s 50th birthday, which will feature performances by the music departments of all 12 Howard County high schools. The rehearsal is on Saturday, April 22nd from approximately 2:30 - 4:30, and the performance is on Sunday, April 23rd from approximately noon until 6:00. Exact times will be finalized soon. Lunch will be provided on Sunday, and students will be transported by bus from RHHS to Merrriweather Post Pavilion (and back) for both the rehearsal and the concert. The second performance that we will be adding to our schedule is right here at school on May 3rd for the entire student body of Clarksville Elementary School. We will play sometime after 2:00 and be done before 3:00 (students will need to arrange transportation home from school when we are done). These events are for ALL Band students, and my assumption is that everyone will be in attendance for both of them. Thank you for adding them to your family calendar now so that the dates are reserved.

Graduation - Mrs. McKinley has invited the Band to be the featured ensemble at graduation this year, and I am working to determine how to best showcase our talents at this important event. At this point I am asking that EVERY band student assume that he/she will be involved, and I will update you as plans become more solidified. The county has not released graduation dates, so I can’t give you a specific day and time at this point anyway…..

This has been a GREAT year so far for the RHHS Bands, and I look forward to every remaining rehearsal and performance with my students!

Musically,

Mr. B.
